Story Time is the second episode of the second series of the original program,Bernard's Watch which was broadcast for the first time on CITV on the 2 October 1998.
Plot[]
Karen always hated writing. She used every excuse she could to get out of it. But sadly, this time the teacher saw through her. This time they have to write about something they have lost, what it means to lose it and how they have found it. In a matter of a second Bernard has already finished his paper. Karen stops time and goes to the library to look at some books for inspiration until she suddenly feels sort of tired. To wake herself up she goes for a walk into town. She visits one of the clothes shops and tried on all the clothes as the shop assistant could not stop her.
Then, on her way back to school she comes across an accident waiting to happen. A man on a ladder which has toppled over back near an oncoming car speeding at 40 miles per hour. Below the ladder is a woman and there is a can of paint just above the pram she is holding. Karen removes the can and ties the man on the ladder, with a rope and a hook from the hardware shop, to safety. Then when she is about to check if it would work she finds that she has lost the watch. She meets the Postman, who gave Bernard the watch, who tells her they have an alarm system if the watch has broken. Karen is unable to give him the watch as she has lost it. The Postman is unable to help her find it but he suggests asking Bernard. Bernard is still frozen but she reads his story which gives her the idea of going back to the place where she last had it and retrace her steps from there. She finds the watch on the dashboard of the speeding car then restarts time and her plan is successful.
Back in school Karen writes about the lost watch. Miss Picot likes the story and tells her it is the best she has seen for ages.
Trivia[]
- This is the first episode to feature Nottingham city centre when previously only the suburbs of Gamston (actually in the borough of Rushcliffe but with Nottingham as its post town) and Wilford were featured.
- This is the first episode to reveal Nottingham as the filming location (a partially obscured sign in the hardware shop window claims it is Nottingham's leading hardware store).
- This is the only episode in which a user loses the watch in frozen time.
